The author studied the corrosion resistance of stainless steels on petroleum refining process by plant test.
The results obtained were as follows:
(1) 4-6 Cr steel is not so effective for corrosion resistance on petroleum refining units.
(2) 13 Cr steel and 18-8 Cr-Ni steel have resistance to almost all environments of petroleum refining process.
(3) The environments which have influence upon pitting corrosion of stainless steels were researched practically.
(4) AISI Type 316SS stainless steel is most stable for pitting corrosion.
