Does Rainbow Color Truly Represent Alternative Gender?

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the representative color of the alternative gender. The subject was 60 “Non-alternative Gender” and 60 “Alternative Gender”. The stimulus composed of 40 Munsell hue with 5/8, N1, N5, N9, and a rainbow color chips. The subject’s task was to select the color chips which represent the alternative gender. The result shows that the top 3 selected color chips were 10P 5/8, 2.5P 5/8 and rainbow color. However, almost of rainbow color selection was made by non-alternative gender subjects. Only one of 60 alternative gender subjects thought that rainbow color was their representative color. The result indicated that rainbow color was not the most appropriate color to represent the alternative gender.
