Purpose : In this study, a new 3D printer material was developed for the first time in Japan. The effect of using the material to improve the accuracy and fit of the digital denture base fabricated by a 3D printer, and the possibility of its clinical application were examined.
Methods : After measuring the shape of the edentulous maxillary model using a scanner, the denture base was designed using denture base design software, and STL data of the edentulous maxillary denture base (3DP・DB) was produced. To fabricate a replica of the 3DP・DB with a heat-cured denture base (HC・DB), dental impression materials were used, paraffin wax was poured, and the wax denture base was completed. To record the shape of the wax denture base, it was scanned and made into individual wax denture base reference STL data. The wax denture base was implanted according to the standard procedure, and the HC・DB was fabricated. The difference between the STL data of the wax denture base and that of the HC・DB was evaluated. Next, STL data of the 3DP・DB and the denture base with fitting improved by a vacuum aspirator were compared.
Results : The fit accuracy of the maxillary edentulous denture base fabricated with the newly developed 3D printing material was further improved by adaptability improvement processing, suggesting the possibility of clinical application of 3D printed dentures.
Conclusions : It is suggested that clinical application of 3D printed dentures using new 3D printed denture materials is possible.
