『英和対訳袖珍辞書』・『百学連環』・『哲学字彙』に於ける訳語一致度の考察

The writer made a comparative investigation as to the agreement between the translated words of '英和対訳袖珍辞書' and '哲学字彙'.By a careful examination of these two dictionaries, the writer found that at most 15% of the translated words in '哲学字彙'are exactly the same as or similar to those in '英和対訳袖珍辞書'
Furthermore, the writer made an investigation concerning agreement among the above translated words and those translated words in '百学連環', a book by Amane Nishi (西周).
The writer wants to make clear how and to what degree the translated words in '英和対訳袖珍辞書'were adopted as technical terms in the Meiji Era, and at the same time whether any trace of Amane Nishi could be seen in '英和対訳袖珍辞書', for Nishi was one of the assistants who worked on the first edition of the dictionary published in 1862, and is famous for his having originally formed a great many translated words and terms. On examination, Amane Nishi proved to have formed many technical terms after his period of study abroad, from 1862 to 1865.
By comparative study, the writer found that many of Nishi's translated words were made by amending those translated words found in '英和対訳袖珍辞書'.
The influence of '英和対訳袖珍辞書'on the final development of Modern Japanese should be studied in greater detail.
