  A new method of solidification analysis based on the modified temperature recovery method was investigated to simulate undercooled solidification of the eutectic composition of Al-Si binary alloy. In this model, solidification rate from undercooled melt is defined as a function of two state variables, i.e. temperature and fraction of solid. Validation of the method was confirmed by comparing the measured and calculated cooling curves and fraction of solid distributions at various solidification durations. Recalescence phenomena at the start of eutectic solidification were found in the cooling curves when the solidification time tf was longer than 1.2s, but not when tf<1.2s. Undercooling of the eutectic solidification increased as the solidification time tf decreased when tf<100s, while the eutectic solidification temperature was almost the same as the equilibrium eutectic temperature when tf>100s. Both the temperature gradient and fraction of solid gradient in the specimens during the eutectic solidification became steeper as tf decreased. These experimental results are well calculated by the new method.
