We have been attempting to develop composite casting materials to respond to the needs for improvement of functions and combination of XX. We thus developed a new method of manufacturing a composite material by cladding alloy cast iron and steel around a tough steel base using the continuous casting method applying induction heating. This method is called continuous pouring process for cladding. Compared with conventional overlay welding, the freedom degree of the cladding material is greater and the cladding efficiency is dramatically improved. In the case of the centrifugal casting method widely used for the manufacture of rolling mill rolls, there was a limitation on the strength of the core, but this is also improved by more than twice in the development method. In addition, this process also uses multi-component white cast iron which was first put into practical application as shell material in Japan. Using this process, a high-performance roll having a fine microstructure without segregation was developed.
