The static performance of hydraulic motors can be described with the aid of mathematical models created by Wilson, SchlOsser, etc. The compressibility of working fluid is not considered in these models however, and therefore they can not be applied to air motors which deal with compressed air. In this study, a mathematical model for the output torque and the air consumption of air motors is developed, and the experiments on a radial piston air motor yield data which substantiatest he theory.
Next, the static performancec haracteristics of an air motor with a restrictor are obtained by using the mathematicalmodel for air motors and the flow characteristics of the restrictor, theoretically. Furthermore, the additional experiments on the air motor with a restrictor give data confirming the predictions of the theory concerning the performance.
As a result of this study, the possibility of the optimum design of pneumatic system which consists of an air motor and the other pneumaticc omponents is indicated.
