A seal-block type gear pump, which compresses low viscosity fluids (equal to water) to very high pressures, and operates very efficiently through the entire the low-to high-speed range, was developed. Some improvements to the conventional design were : applying a rosin coating to the seal block to reduce inner leakage, improving the balance of pressure, and optimizing the material composition of the sliding parts, all of which enable this pump to compress extremely low viscosity fluids to a pressure of 10 MPa at high volumetric efficiency, even at extremely low speeds. These results were obtained in experiments, and it was confirmed in comparison tests against other gear pumps that this device is the most efficient. In addition, this pump's torque characteristic, which is strongly influenced by speed, is relatively high in the low-speed range.
