Jingu Forest is extremely precious as vast greenery in the middle of
Metropolis Tokyo. According to Imaizumi (2013), after returning from
studying in Germany for forest aesthetics, many Japanese dendrologists
engaged in the initial planning for the forest of Meiji Jingu Inner Garden.
However it is not yet well-known how they actually contributed to the
project.
In this study, we specifically analyze the methodology of the Japanese
dendrologists who worked for the Inner Garden Project, comparing their
method with the modus in the second English edition of the original Forest
Aesthetics. In the process, it will be highlighted the similarities and
differences between Japanese and German approaches, and investigated the
influence of forest aesthetics on the Inner Garden Project.
