Abstract
This is one of the fundamental studies on tolerable capacity of trees against the snow pressure upon slopes. We observed natural forest at several snow-covered slopes in Hokkaido and the results are summarised as follows. 1) The tree roots living on the snow-covered slopes mostly show the figure as Photo.- 1 and -2, and grow in like way of Fig.-1. 2) The trees, on the snow-covered slopes, grow with the form as Fig.-2, in order to tolerate against the pressure caused by snow deposit. 3) The tolerable capacities of Todomatsu (conifer) and Itayakaede (leaf tree) against the snowpressure are shown in Fig.-3.
