Abstract
The SHOGANINTEIEN, a garden created toward the end of the EDO period, inherits records in SHOTOKENNOKI written by IMAKITA KOSEN in ANSEI 6 (1859). These records include topics relating to the particular period and on the creator of the garden. The garden was created prior to 1844 (TENPO 15) by GEKKEI NAKATANI, a monk at the time. This kind of information not only arouses another interest in appreciating the garden, but also plays an important role as a historical reference. Furthermore, not only does it set gardening standards for the area, landscaping, and style, it also is thought to be scientifically important. The presenpresentation of this garden will be made with reference to this SHOTOKENNOKI.
