Abstract
The object of this study is to expound the gardening conception of the Honpo-ji, the Nichiren sect temple, in the area of Terano-uchi along the Horino-uchi, Kamikyo-ku, Kyoto-shi, based upon the Lotus Sutra or the Sho-hokke-daimokusho and Ongikuden by Saint Nichiren or the faith of Hon-ami-Koetsu.
A conclusion
The Honpo-ji garden was built by Hon-nmikoetsu about the fourth year of Keicho (1599 A. D.) as the eastern garden of a drawing room along with other temples.
I think this Hokke karesansui garden like a drawing room was built, regarding the subject as “the supreme law, ” the conception as “the Buddha Sakyamuni, ” and the formation as “the Lotus Sutra.”
