Abstract

The problem of population decline continues to progress in depopulated rural communities. In face of this, there is new momentum building to work to view depopulated rural communities positively as a place of life and potential. This momentum focuses on the communities being “places blessed with good climate and nature,” “places where LOHAS and Slow Life can happen,” “places where you can be self-sufficient,” and “places suitable for child rearing.” Interest in the “Den-en Kaiki-Return to Rural Living” is increasing. It is important to promote immigration and create jobs, especially for the young people and child-rearing generation in order to revitalize depopulated rural communities.
When immigrants to the region are involved in rural development, they can effectively uncover and use previously hidden rural resources with their outsider’s viewpoint. This creates new rural livelihoods and creates value for the region, adding new value to depopulated rural community development.
Purchase type crowdfunding is an easy method for collecting money. Immigrants who start new rural livelihoods can reduce risk as much as possible, share economic burdens and get psychological support. It allows immigrants to restart if they should fail. It is significant not only because it collects money for startups but also because it creates a flow of people and money that continues even after the fund-collection project is finished. This study of the case of an immigrant in Mukatsuku Peninsula, Yuya, Nagato city, Yamaguchi prefecture, Japan confirmed that use of purchase type crowdfunding by immigrants in depopulated rural communities is useful in creating a flow of people and money.
Thanks to the use of purchase type crowdfunding, increased skills gainedacquiring fans and supporters for goals before starting can be applied in a variety of other activities to create a flow of people and money to depopulated rural communities, including sales promotion for items made with rural resources, exchange between urban areas and rural areas, and promotion of immigration.
