Abstract

In recent years, performance-based design has become increasingly important even for geotechnical structures, and detailed analyses using such as the finite element method (FEM) are widely conducted. The parameters used in such analyses are often estimated from the results of geotechnical laboratory tests. In this study, a method for estimating material parameters of the SYS Cam-clay model is proposed using DMS-PSO. The validity of the proposed method was examined in two ways: (1) verification of the accuracy when estimating the constitutive model parameters from results calculated using the constitutive law, and (2) verification of reproducibility when estimating parameters to replicate actual experiments. Regarding (1), by setting the number of particles to 400 or more and the number of swarms to 8, 20, 50, or 100, the correct solution was obtained with 100% probability. For (2), the coefficient of variation of the parameters obtained from 100 trials ranged from 0 to 0.3%, indicating that nearly identical parameters were obtained. Based on these findings, the proposed automatic parameter estimation method is considered valid.
