Abstract
New microbial carbonate precipitation techniques were developed with salt tolerant and alkali-proof microorganis ms . This technique can accelerate the microbial carbonate precipitation in a coastal region, and its efficiency is discussed in this paper. The main outcomes of this research were: 1) Sporosarcina (Bacillus) pasteurii can enhance microbial carbonate precipitation in a coastal region, 2) Effective urea and calcium chloride concentration is 0.15 mol/L (Ure C gene copies had been kept in high concentration during the cultivation tests.), 3) After the 12-days cultivation period, unconfined compression strength was observed over 200 kN/m2 for the Toyoura sand column. Microbial carbonate precipitation by using salt tolerance and alkali proof microorganisms can increase soil strength with short-term cultivation.
