The method practiced in Karlsruhe Nuclear Research Center in West Germany for the treatment of persons contaminated with radioactive substances is presented, classifying the contamination into three categories: 1) contamination of the surface of the body, 2) inhalation exposure and 3) wound contamination. The estimation of body burden of plutonium and the assessment of effectiveness of DTPA in removing incorporated plutonium after DTPA therapy performed in an accident which occurred in the above-mentioned Research Center are also described.
