Background: The AVNRT is more common in the middle-aged women. The purpose of this study is to evaluate for the electrophysiological characteristics about age and gender related differences in the patients with AVNRT. Methods: We evaluated the electrophysiological findings of 159 patients ⟨53.2±18.7 years, 105 women⟩ who underwent the slow pathway ablation for AVNRT and investigated the influence of aging and gender on the AV nodal conduction. Results: The interval of Atrio-His conduction were positively correlated with the age ⟨r=0.48, p<0.001⟩. The female patients had more strongly positive correlation between them ⟨r=0.53, p<0.001⟩ than male patients ⟨r=0.37, p=0.006⟩. Especially in the female patients, the conductive difference between AV nodal antegrade dual pathways tended to be getting smaller with aging ⟨r=−0.19, p=0.07⟩ and the effective refractory period of the retrograde AV nodal conduction tended to be getting larger with aging ⟨r=0.25, p=0.02⟩. According to the gender related difference, the female patients had the larger antegrade conductive difference of A-H interval between AV nodal dual pathways ⟨157.6±85.6 vs. 123.6±64.5 msec, p=0.014⟩ and the larger functional reentrant tachycardia circuit than male patients ⟨404.9±85.3 vs. 366.8±73.8 msec, p=0.03⟩. Conclusion: The female patients had the larger conductive difference of AV nodal antegrade dual pathways than male patients, however that may decrease with aging. And the female patients had the larger functional reentrant circuit than that of the male patients, moreover the influence of the aging on the AV nodal conductivity was more prominent in female patients.
