Abstract
Lingual thyroid is a developmental anomaly caused by failure of the thyroid gland to achieve its normal position in the neck. We herein present a case of a 55-year-old female patient with a sore throat and dysphonia. Imaging studies revealed a 3-cm, well-defined tumor on the midline of the tongue. Hypothyroidism was also detected and the serum thyroglobulin level was high. The patient underwent extirpation via a suprahyoid approach. Although this patient presented with hypothyroidism before undergoing surgery, some cases require replacement therapy following medical intervention. Full informed consent should be obtained based on an adequate evaluation.
