Abstract
The glycerol test (G test) is an easy and beneficial test to predict the existence of endolymph hydrops. We herein summarize the results of the G test in 43 ears in 39 patients who were referred to our department at Kyushu University Hospital from April 2010 to August 2012. The positive rate of the G test, in combination with suspected data, was 35.5% in the endolymph hydrops group. When that was added to the subjects whose level of hearing improved at the testing point, the positive rate increased to 64.5%. On the other hand, two patients were judged to be positive in the group without endolymph hydrops. Further research is needed to detect the presence of endolymph hydrops with a rapid procedure that has high sensitivity and specificity, in combination with other tests using glycerol.
