Abstract
According to the classification developed by the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA) in 1996, there are two groups of vascular lesions: vascular tumors and vascular malformations. The management of these anomalies is often difficult and must involve a multidisciplinary approach. We herein report eight cases of vascular malformations that originated in the laryngeal and hypopharyngeal regions. The patients consisted of six males and two females with a mean age of 48.9 years. Three cases had additional vascular malformations. Four cases underwent surgical resection under direct laryngoscopy, with the use of a CO2 laser in one case and a powered microdebrider in two cases. Three cases received polidocanol sclerotherapy. One case with a postcricoid large venous malformation was treated by surgical resection of the lesion with an extracervical approach. The postoperative course of the five cases who were treated surgically has been favorable without any recurrence.
