Abstract
The author hypothesized that circulatory insufficiency in the brainstem and/or inner ears is the most probable mechanism whereby dizziness develops without known causes. Physical examinations of vertiginous patients for blood pressure, orthostatic regulation, and baroreceptor reflex showed that the disturbed homeostasis of blood pressure plays a critical role in the development of such dizziness. Hematological examinations showed that physical changes of blood derived from stress, such as increased serum cholesterol and enhanced blood platelet aggregation, alter the property of blood and induce circulatory insufficiency. The author believes that the imbalance in blood flow between both vertebral arteries, together with above mentioned systemic circulatory changes, leads to the onset of dizziness of unknown causes.
