Abstract
Of a total of 150 patients with Meniere's disease seen at Tokyo Women's Medical College Hospital during the 2-year period from June 1975 through May 1977, 62 (75 ears) were treated by acupancture as the disease was intractable to drug therapy. Now, after over 5-year follow-up, the therapeutic outcome was obtained in 60 patients (72 ears). One patient, after having received acupancture therapy, was operated at another hospital and became deaf. Of the remaining 59 patients (71 ears), hearing was improved in 4 ears (5.6 %), remained unchanged in 65 ears (71.5%) and worsened in 2 ears (2.8%). It is noteworthy that worsening of the hearing was revealed only in few cases by over 5-year follow-up.
