Abstract
The enhancement of cancer chemotherapy by Angiotensin-induced Hypertension is based on the fact that the autoregulation of blood flow is lacking in tumor tissues. Therefore, the selective increase in tumor blood flow enhances the chemotherapeutic effect by increasing the delivery of anticancer drug administrated systemically. We induced hypertension with Angiotensin II in 11 head and neck cancer patients when anti-cancer drugs were administrated systemically or infused into the artery. The good clinical response was observed in 5 out of 11 (45.5%)(5 cases including 2 complete (CR) and 3 partial responses (PR)). These results indicate that the effect of anti-cancer drugs was markedly enhanced by this procedure. Furthermore, the effect of the drugs appeared in far earlier than in the treatment without induced hypertension.
