A case report of pseudomembranous colitis following surgery for thyroid cancer

Abstract

74-year-old female with pseudomembranous colitis following surgery for thyroid cancer is reported. The patient complained of watery diarrhea and high fever during post-surgical antibiotic therapy. Bacteriologi-cal examination of the stool revealed the presence of clostridium difficile, and she was treated with vancomycin and cholestryamine. Previous antibiotics were discontinued. In evaluating the effect of our therapy, CD-check Dl proved very useful.
