Abstract
A case of mucoepidermoid tumor of the larynx is reported. The patient was an 81-year-old man who had suffered from hoarseness and dyspnea. Laryngoendoscopic observation revealed a large tumorous lesion in the left glottis and subglottic space. Histopathological findings of the specimen showed a moderately differentiated mucoepidermoid tumor. Because the patient rejected surgical treatment, he received a full dosage of radiotherapy. As a result, the tumorous lesion disappeared. Subsequently, he was given UFT orally and immunotherapy by injection of sizofiran. No recurrence was observed after five months of treatment. A few cases of the mucoepidermoid tumor of the larynx including this case have been reported in Japan. This case report includes a discussion emphasizing a radiotherapeutic approach to the treatment of this disease.
