Clinical efficacy of pemirolast potassium (TBX) on perennial allergic rhinitis

Abstract

The clinical efficacy of pemirolast potassium (TBX) was investigated in 48 patients with perennial allergic rhinitis. The drug was orally administered for 4 weeks. Nasal sympotms improved in relation to the duration of the treatment period, and the final global improvement rate of “moderately improved” or more was 56%. With respect to drug safety, adverse effects (masal pain, etc.) were reported in 4 out of 47 cases and abnormal hepatic function findings were observed in 2. None of these side effects were severe. The utility rate, taking the safety of the drug into consideration, of “useful” or more was 52%. According to these results, it is considered that TBX is useful for the treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis.
