Abstract
The clinical efficacy and safety of aspoxicillin (ASPC) in 44 patients with otolaryngeal infections were investigated. As a result, the rate of effectiveness was scored as high as 98% by the physician's assessment and 86% by the Committee's assessment based on the clinical symptoms and findings. Favorable results of ASPC treatment were achieved especially in out-patients with acute tonsillitis or pharyngolaryn gitis. No side effects were observed at all. Bacteriological examination was performed in 5 of the 44 cases. Gram-positive bacteria, on which ASPC is effective, were detected in all cases; after ASPC treatment, the rate of effectiveness by the Committee's assessment was 100%. It was concluded that ASPC is one of the very useful non-cephem antibiotics and has an excellent clinical efficacy, with a wide margin of safety, against otolaryngeal infections including tonsillitis and pharyngolaryngitis.
