Six hundred and seventy-eight cases of head and neck malignant tumors were treated in our clinic during the ten year period from Jan. 1979 to Dec. 1988. These cases consisted of 636 cases of epithelial malignant tumors and 42 cases of non-epithelial malignant tumors.
(1) Epitherial malignant tumors (Head and Neck cancer): Laryngeal Carcinoma cases were the most prevelent comprising (34.7%) of the group. The annual number of cases with mesopharyngeal carcinoma has gradually increased while that with paranasal cavity carcinoma has decreased. The sex ratio was 4.0. The number of the cases in their sixth decades were the most numerous in all groups. The majority of carcinoma cases were Stage III and IV, except for laryngeal carcinoma cases. The incidence of cervical lymph-node metastasis was high (48.8%). Historogically, most of the group showed squamous cell carcinoma (94.5%).
(2) Non-epitherial malignant tumors: This group consisted of 35 cases of malignant lymphoma. In malignant lymphoma, the sex ratio was 0.78 and the largest number of cases were in their sixth decade of life. Cases with Stage IV were in the majority.
