Abstract
Metastatic tumors of the the nose and paranasal sinuses are relatively rare. We herein report a case of prostatic cancer that metastasized to the maxillary bone. The patient was an 85-year-old male suffering from right zygomatic swelling and pain. He had undergone an operation to remove an adenocarcinoma of the prostate two years earlier. A histopathological examination of the maxillary tumor showed the presence of adenocarcinoma and positive staining by an immunohistochemical study for metastatic prostatic cancer. There have been 85 cases of metastatic tumors of the head and neck region in the Japanese literature. When one encounters a tumor of the nasal and paranasal regions, then the possibility of a metastatic tumor should be considered. In addition, the metastatic pathways to the head and neck are also discussed briefly.
