Abstract
We report an infant with severe respiration disorder during nutritive sucking. Breast feeding was started after birth, but stridor, cyanosis, and regurgitation of milk to the nasal cavity were observed. Neither magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) nor other examinations showed any marked abnormalities, however, slight narrowing of the epipharynx was noted. This anomaly may have led to labored nasal breathing during sucking, affecting the rhythm of deglutition movement involving the mandible and tongue, and causing aspiration. This disorder gradually improved.
