Abstract

For the past 5 years the authors have treated 77 cases of cancer of the larynx by the operative procedure. In 7 cases laryngo-fissure, in the other cases laryngectomy were performed. In 70 laryngectomized cases, 32 cases were intrinsic, 38 cases were extrinsic cancers and 8 cases had so extremely advanced that the places of the out-break were indistinct, 5 cases in which a part of cancer had involved to the thyroid gland after having had broken the thyroid cartilage.
In these cases there were many far beyond the indication appointed by Crowe, but the authors could dispose of them only by median line incision. From these experiences the authors concluded that they can by this method dispose of effectively even those far beyond what Crowe himself stated as indication for this operation, and at least by some experiences they can easily dispose of such cases as can be done by the usual method of operation by Gluck, Seroensen and so forth. The authors have described few noteworthy points on the operation.
