Abstract
If caustic silver is used for a long period of time, it causes a chemical compound of oxidized silver, albumen and silver to settle in the tissue of the pharynx. This is arygyrosis pharngeus, and it has a peculiar dark red color of some metallic kind.
I reported two cases of argyrosis pharyngeus of extraordinary nature. I found in one of the cases the patient appealed chiefly for pain when he tried to swallow something. In the other case the patient suf-fered from “fremdkörpergefühl”. In view of the above cases, I wanred against the use of caustic silver by a patient himself.
