The imprint of the under surface of the tectorial membrane was studied with scanning electron microscope in kanamycin-treated guinea pigs. When the outer hair cells were damaged by kanamycin, degenerated hairs were seen on the imprints. Some imprints have disappeared for three years and three months after the disappearance of the outer sensory hairs. It was thought that the imprints had changed morphologically over long periods of time.
