A 6-month-old female had sudden onset of cough, stridor and dyspnea. A chest X-ray film showed emphysema of the left lung and deviation to the right of the mediastinum and trachea.
Respiratory sounds were weak on the left. A small toy was missing, so we suspected bronchial foreign body and did a bronchoscopic examination.
We could not find any foreign body, but saw granulation blocking the lumen of the left main bronchus and polypoid granulation in the right main bronchus. Bronchial tuberculosis was diagnosed by histological examination.
She was treated with anti-tuberculosis medicines. Although she experienced repeated remissions and exacerbations, her dyspnea was suddenly relieved and she was free of emphysema. Now she is in good health.
