Abstract
Tympanograms of otosclerosis were studied in 27 patients in order to evaluate the pathognomonic reliability of the test. The results were analyzed according to Jerger's classification of tympanograms. Type As in which the compliance of the tympanogram was below 0.23ml was recognized in 11 ears (37%). Type Ad with compliance over 1.22ml was observed in 6 ears (20%) and type A with compliance between 0.23 and 1.22ml in 13 ears (43%).
The reason that the 63% of tympanograms in these patients were not type As is probably a thin tympanic membrane or a loose incudo-stapedial joint, presumably due partly to frequent air inflation therapy.
