Twenty-two patients with head and neck cancer were treated with carboplatin (CBDCA) in combination with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). The correlation of myelosuppression with CBDCA dosage and area under the blood concentration-time curve (AUC) was analyzed. The AUC was related to the lowest platelet count. In 4 cases treated with a CBDCA dosage determined by the formula of Calvert, the actual AUC resembled the expected AUC. The formula of Calvert was useful for determining the dosage of CBDCA.
