Abstract

We investigated 44 children with adenoid vegetation who underwent adenotomy between 1985 and 1987.
Their parents were surveyed by a quetionaire concerning their snoring, mouth breathing, hearing impairment and suspectibility to infection in 1988. Their mean age was 6 years. The mean hospitalization period was 8 days. The main symptoms of adenoid vegetation were snoring, difficulty in nasal breathing and nasal obstruction. The most serious complication was secretory otitis media.
The improvement rates for snoring, mouth breathing, hearing impairment and suspectibility to infection after the adenotomy were 97.0%,74.3%,55.0% and 96.3%, respectively. The childlen's parents reported that the adenotomy was successful in 91.3%.
