Abstract

Production of aromatic hydrocarbons from petroleum is now one of the large petrochemical industries. In America, over half of the demand of benzene, toluene and xylene is supplied from petroleum source. In our country, half of these aromatics is expected to be short in a few years.
Aromatic hydrocarbons are produced from petroleum by catalytic reformings or other aromatization processes, and then refined by extraction, azeotropic distillation or absorp-tion.The author described these processes comparing their economic possibilities.
