Abstract
The present status of research on coking process are critically reviewd. At first, the characteristic behaviours of caking coals on heating are explained as for the following items; chloroform extracts of pre-heated coal and volatile solids in vacuum distillation; metaplast theory; X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis.
The author next emphasized the influence of fissures on the drum strength of coke by whichcoking properties of original coal is evaluated, introducing his own studies on fissure formation during carbonisation.
Lastly, he summarized how to determine the best combination of coals in blending in order to produce hard cokes from high volatile domestic coals ranging widely in fluidity.
