Abstract
The conversion of methylnaphthalene and methyl-hydro-naphthalenes to Naphthalene was investigated.
Methylnaphthalene can be converted to naphthalene with high yield over chromia alumina catalyst in hydrogen atmosphere, and methylhydronaphthalenes can be also converted to naphthalene using above catalyst, not requring the two stage method_ of dehydrogenation and dealkylation, but by the simple method of controlling the temperature gradient of one catalyst zone.
The behabiour of benzene derivatives under the conditions of producing naphthalene was studied.
Alkylbenzenes are also dealkylated and the long side chains are mainly hydrocracked.but partly cyclized to form naphthalene ring.
