This paper deals with the field of antidesertification and gives (1) an outline of the distribution of arid regions in the world, (2) an analysis of desertification mechanisms and (3) a description of the variations in the meteorological environment which result from desert greening reclamation.
The paper also summarizes the ecological and sociological problems which must be considered to produce enduring effects of greening reclamation, the two most important of which are the arrangement of inhabitable conditions for human beings and the preservation of reclaimed land.
