Abstract
The effect of sulfur poisoning, an important factor for methanation, was studied using a Ru/Al2O3 catalyst and the factors which control the life of the catalyst were investigated.
We studied the methanation reaction of COG (Coke Oven Gas), an important reaction from the viewpoint of industrial application. COG methanation has already been put into practical use in the SNG (Substitute Natural Gas) manufacturing process.
As a result, it was found that sulfur atoms adsorb surface atoms of Ru metal particles in the ratio of 1 to 1.
Furthermore, this study suggests that the higher the Ru dispersion of a catalyst, the larger the amout of saturated sulfur adsorption and the longer the life of the catalyst.
