Abstract
Lignocellulosic biomass, which is paid attention to as material for producing ethanol, consists of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. Ethanol is obtained by pretreating and fermenting cellulose but lignocellulosic biomass have strong structure and cellulose have crystalline structure. Therefore it is necessary to conduct effective pretreatment. As the effective pretreatment method, there is simultaneous pulverization and hydrothermal pretreatment. In previous study, new experimental apparatus using disc mill was developed and the effectiveness of this apparatus was confirmed. However, it was also confirmed that the characteristics of biomass after pulverization pretreatment under hydrothermal condition differed from one feedstock to another. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct experiment using different feedstock to confirm the characteristics of the apparatus. In this study, we conducted experiment using water hyacinth as feedstock and investigated the effect of temperature. As a result, highest glucose yield was obtained at reaction temperature of 150 ℃.
