Abstract
To utilize the tomato leaves and stems which are green wastes of Aichi Prefecture, we studied ethanol production from them. We used three kinds of pentose-fermenting yeast, Pachysolen tannophilus NBRC1007, Pichia stipitis NBRC1687 and Candida shehatae NBRC1983. Pichia stipitis NBRC1687 produced the highest concentration of ethanol (1.5mg/mL) from the 5% suspension of the three. It has been difficult to make 10 % high dispersive suspension. But we could make it by passing the grinder in wet condition. So we achieved the 9.4mg/mL ethanol concentration from 10 % suspension.
