The approximate light distribution for toroidal light sources is determined by calculating their departure from an ideal toroidal light source of infinitesimal thickness. The following factors are considered: toroidal thickness, interreflections, diffuse characteristics, finite photometric distance, defect of the ring due to the socket. The influences of these factors are combined.
An abridged method of computation of the light distribution is proposed for determining the total flux. Values thus obtained are in good agreement with values measured in an usual light distribution method.
A modification of the “Unit-Sphere Method” is also proposed for the analytical treatment of the torold so that problems caused by the complicated interre flections on the inside of the toroidal source may be solved.
