Previously, the authors presented “Discharge Lamp Operation by means of a Thyristor Inverter Type of Step-up Voltage Circuit” and “The Analysis of the Circuit”. This circuit has some meritsas the discharge lamp operating circuit such as a transless supply from d. c. lower voltage source, no conventional ballast and the Security of sufficient ignition voltage, etc.
But, it is troublesome and difficult to design the circuit satisfying harmoniously these merits orparticular specifications, becausethere is hithertono experimental data However, the CAD (Computer-Aided Design) seems to be the only powerful method to overcome this difficulty, since, once a programis prepared for the specifications, the CAD program can provide sufficient information inpa relatively short time.
Then, the authors have applied the CAD to the circuit with a fluorescent lamp as the dischargelamp load at the frequency of 400, 1, 000 and 2, 000 Hz, that is, in the range where the lamp load issupposed to be an equivalent constant resistance.
In this paper, the procedure and results of the CAD are described in comparison with experimental examination. The suitability of the lamp approximation and the application of this CAD are also discussed.
