Abstract
The temperature rise of lamp socket is partly due to ohmic loss produced in its mechanism, but chiefly due to the heat generated in lamp filament. Hence its degree is much affected by attached lamp and shade. Series of tests were carried in cases of various combinations of several kinds of lamps and two typical shades. From the tests, it was shown that the rating of socket is not determined simply by volt and amp.: but it is rather preferable to show the max. allowable temperature. High temperature tests were, also, carried until the socket fails; and its troubles or defects of construction and material were pointed out respectively.
