JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe temperature rise of lamp socket is partly due to ohmic loss produced in its mechanism, but chiefly due to the heat generated in lamp filament. Hence its degree is much affected by attached lamp and shade. Series of tests were carried in cases of various combinations of several kinds of lamps and two typical shades. From the tests, it was shown that the rating of socket is not determined simply by volt and amp.: but it is rather preferable to show the max. allowable temperature. High temperature tests were, also, carried until the socket fails; and its troubles or defects of construction and material were pointed out respectively.View full abstractDownload PDF (4603K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe brightness of several light sources has already been given, but we can not obtain any data concerning frosted lamp bulb, and luminaires.
So we measured the brightness of frosted lamp bulbs, globes and semi-indirect bowls, and obtained the following relations:
The brightness of frosted bulb surfaces increases with-not directly proportional to-the increases of the rated capacity of the lamp.
Semi-indirect bowls and opal globes show the clear relation between the size and surface brightness; i. e. the brightness is proportional to the spherical candle power of the lamp and inversely proportional to the square of the diameter. But as to the Alabaster or ordinary frosted glass globes the above relations do not strictly hold.View full abstractDownload PDF (1239K) -
