The combustion character of coal char in the carbon dioxide/oxygen combustion process was investigated and compared with the air (nitrogen/oxygen) combustion for the purpose of recycling carbon dioxide as exhaust gas. Therefore, the reaction rate, pore size distribution, exhaust gas, and ash character were determined in the temperature range of 973〜1773K to examine the combustion process of the coal due to the carbon dioxide gasification. As a result, the influence of the gasification was confirmed from 1123K in the above-mentioned experimental data. The reactivity is decreased by carbon monoxide, which occurred so that carbon dioxide gasification may cause endothermic reaction by the carbon dioxide/oxygen combustion. Although, due to a change in the pore size distribution by gasification, the coal char was activated and the reactivity increased in more than 1123K.
