A conventional method was improved to the determination of carbonyl groups (C=O) in solid sample using infrared spectrometry. The factors were determined with carbonyl peaks of acetophenone, cyclohexanone, benzoic acid and heptanoic acid against the peak at 2120cm-1 of 1-tetradecyn, which was an internal standard (IS). The factors were valid less than 0.8 of C=O/IS molecular ratio. In addition, dichloromethane was useful to prepare a solid sample/IS slurry for the measurement with small sample size.
